The Kupfermuckn is an Upper Austrian street newspaper . It is sold in the urban area of Linz , Wels and Steyr . The term Kupfermuckn comes from the vocabulary of the homeless and means a place to sleep or a shelter in an abandoned building or hut.

history

In 1996 the association Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Homelesslose organized a writing workshop. The results of this writing workshop were summarized in a newspaper, which was distributed in the inner city of Linz. Due to the demand, the newspaper was initially continued quarterly and has been published monthly since 2002. In 2010, around 200,000 copies were sold over the year.

The operation of the Kupfermuckn is organized by a full-time team and financed from own revenues, subsidies from the state of Upper Austria and the city of Linz as well as special cultural subsidies and donations.

Homeless people and people below the poverty line and employees of the working group for homeless people work together on this project.
