Kurangun rock relief

Kurangun is located in what is now Iran in the Fars Province . It is the site of an Elamite rock relief.

The relief shows a god with a horned crown sitting on a throne. Behind him sits a goddess who is crowned in the same way. Both hold snakes in one hand. In front of and behind the deities there are other figures, but only outlines have been preserved. The scene is framed by two further reliefs showing standing figures. Since there are no inscriptions, the dating of the reliefs is controversial. The central scene is classified around 1700 BC. Chr. Considered. The flanking reliefs, on the other hand, probably date more than 1000 years later, to the eighth or seventh century BC.

The identification of the deities is uncertain. Inšušinak and Napiriša have been suggested because they are the classical pair of gods in the Elamite heaven. However, this is not undisputed.
