history

The Kurhaus was built in 1827/1828 on the initiative of the doctor Johann Baptist Carl Kottmann, partly with donations. The focus was on the treatment of patients with skin rashes, inflammation of the respiratory or digestive organs or who suffered from "irritation of the nerves", using the "healing powers" of milk, whey and mountain air.

In 1862 there was an extension. As part of this, the west side of the building was used for restoration for tourists with a beer and wine cellar and restaurant. The middle part was still withheld from the spa guests. In the east wing, guest rooms were accommodated and a hall was built for groups to stay overnight. In 1951 a south-facing terrace was added and the Oberdorf – Weissenstein chairlift was put into operation using the Von Roll system , which had to be shut down in 2010. In the period up to the end of 2014 the new gondola lift was able to go into operation was bridged by means of a Postbus.

Due to aging, a major renovation was decided in 1984; after a two-year renovation period, the Kurhaus was reopened in 1987.

Today there is a hotel in the Kurhaus, due to the change and the temporary closure the house is partly in very bad condition. Since 2015, new owners have been working to revive the house. In 2016, specific plans were announced and the first hurdles were overcome. The groundbreaking ceremony for the renovation took place in September 2017. The Hotel Weissenstein has been temporarily closed since April 2018. The partial opening of the new Panorama Hall will take place in the 1st quarter of 2019. The entire opening is expected to take place in September 2019.
