Kurt Ruthe

Kurt Ruthe (born June 13, 1894 in Goslar , † March 18, 1980 in Bad Harzburg ) was a German high school teacher and polar researcher .

After graduating from high school, Ruthe completed a wide range of natural sciences studies at the universities of Berlin, Leipzig and Jena. He finished his studies with a thesis on the climate of the Antarctic.

From 1923 to 1959 he taught at the Holzminden grammar school . In addition to his teaching activities, Ruthe worked together with Max Grotewahl from 1934 on building the archive of the German Society for Polar Research . From 1940 to 1972 he was editor of the journal Polarforschung . In 1969, Ruthe was made the first honorary member of the German Society for Polar Research for his commitment .
