The katabira ( Japanese 帷子 ), also Kusari-Katabira , Karuta-Katabira or Kikkō-Katabira is an armor from Japan.
description
The katabira is a light chain (Kusari-Katabira) or plate armor , (Karuta-Katabira, Kikkō-Katabira). Depending on the version, it consists of a more or less long jacket with either long or short sleeves. There is also a hood, gloves, thigh protection, shin protection and Kusari tabi . The chain or plate armor is sewn onto a base made of padded fabric or sewn in between two layers of fabric in the manner of a brigantine . Both types of armor are very finely crafted in this armor. The rings or plates are small and filigree compared to other armor . This enabled the armor to be worn under other items of clothing, such as the kimono , the heavier armor ( yoroi ) or even the combat clothing of the ninja . This provided almost invisible protection that opponents did not expect.
