H. Russell Robinson

H. Russell Robinson (full name Henry Russell Robinson, born May 7, 1920 in London , † January 15, 1978 ibid) was a British weapons expert .

During the Second World War he served in the Royal Air Force as a model maker . Since 1942 Robinson worked on the collection of weapons ( Armory ) of the Tower of London , since 1946 as an assistant since 1970 as its director ( Keeper of the Armories ).

On the one hand he was practically active in the presentation of the Tower's weapons collection, on the other hand he was scientifically active in numerous areas of the history of weapons. In particular, he published standard works in the fields of Japanese weapons and the weapons of the ancient Roman army .

In 1965 Robinson became a member of the Society of Antiquaries of London , and in 1977 he received an honorary MA from Newcastle University for his work on Roman weapons . He was a co-founder of the Arms and Armor Society of Great Britain .
