Bob Pinedo

Herbert Michael "Bob" Pinedo (born August 25, 1943 in Willemstad ) is a Dutch oncologist . From 1979 he was professor at the Medical Center of the Free University of Amsterdam and was director of the cancer center there from 2003 to 2005.

He worked on cancer chemotherapy and drug resistance in cancer, angiogenesis and cancer immunology. Pinedo was the founder and director of the New Drug Development Organization-Oncology (NDDO-Oncology) in Amsterdam (which coordinates clinical trials of cancer drugs). He is the author and co-author of over 600 scientific articles.

In 1997 he received the Spinoza Prize and in 1995 the Dr. Josef Steiner Cancer Research Prize . He is a Knight of the Order of the Dutch Lion (1995) and Commander of the Orange Order (2008). Pinedo is a member of the Netherlands Academy of Sciences (whose medical department he headed from 2003 to 2005) and the Academia Europaea and the Royal Society of Medicine.

He co-founded the Annals of Oncology and The Oncologist, and is co-editor of Clinical Cancer Research. He was the first President of the Federation of European Cancer Societies and was President of the European Society of Medical Oncology.
