Lists on the subject

The Kusazuri ( Japanese 草 摺 ) are parts of the Japanese samurai armor .

description

The kusazuri are shaped like a belt . Pieces of plate armor are attached to the belt at intervals . The Kusazuri are tied around the lower end of the breastplate (Do) and fixed on the back. The number of plates can vary. The fewer records there are, the cheaper it was to buy the kusazuri . The simple servants or soldiers wore a kusazuri with three or four plates, higher samurai one with five or rarely six plates. The individual panels are tied with silk ribbons or with chain armorconnected. A thick layer of fabric is often used as the substrate. The color scheme and design is very different. The coloring is usually adapted to the coloring of the rest of the armor. They are the counterpart to the European tassettes .
