The Kuventhaler Talbrücke is a bridge in Kuventhal , a district of Einbeck in Lower Saxony . Federal highway 3 runs over the bridge . It is a listed building.

history

The previous building dates from 1831, the name was Wilhelmsbrücke. The bridge was named after the brother of Prince Adolph Friedrich Wilhelm IV , who ruled Great Britain, Ireland and Hanover. The planning began in autumn 1827, the plan was to bypass the Hube with its steep ascents and descents. The earthworks began on November 14, 1827, and the foundation stone was laid on June 18, 1828. The seven arches were completed on June 18, 1830. The bridge was released on October 2, 1831.

Although the bridge survived World War II , a new, wider bridge was planned in the early 1950s. The aim was to cope with the growing traffic, but also to separate the slow local traffic from long-distance traffic. For this reason, a two-story bridge was planned. The MAN Gustavburg consortium was awarded the contract to build the double-decker bridge in spring 1952 . On March 14, 1957, the bridge was opened by the then Federal Transport Minister Hans-Christoph Seebohm . The Wilhelmsbrücke was then torn down in the spring of 1957.

description

The bridge has a height of up to 28 meters above the valley floor with the upper deck, the length of the bridge is around 184 meters. Bundesstraße 3 runs over this part of the bridge . The lower carriageway is about 21 meters above the valley floor and about 117 meters long. Local traffic passes over this part of the bridge. The driveways of the lower part of the bridge still come from the Wilhelmsbrücke. The width of the upper bridge is 28 meters, the lower drive is 7.5 meters wide.

The bridge was built from solid steel girders. The pillars and the roadway were made of reinforced concrete. The upper bridge is supported by four double pillars. The lower bridge ends at the two outer pillars. In addition, the lower bridge is suspended from the upper bridge with 72 steel rods with a diameter of 58 millimeters. The lower part of the bridge is therefore a suspension bridge .

In order to avoid steep gradients for the upper carriageway, federal highway 3 was re-routed to 1.2 kilometers and there were cuts in the terrain.
