Kyogoku Tamekans

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kyōgoku Tamekane ( Japanese 京 極 為 兼 ; * 1254 ; † April 16, 1332 in the province of Kawachi ), after his clan also Fujiwara no Tamekane ( 藤原 為 兼 ), was a Japanese poet and politician.

Life

He was the son of Kyōgoku Tamenori and the grandson of the poet Fujiwara no Tameie .

Kyōgoku Tamekane was a confidante of Tennō Fushimi from the imperial Jimyōin line , which rivaled the Daikakuji line for power, which led to his being banished from the Kamakura shogunate to Sado in 1298 for unclear reasons . He was allowed to return in 1303 and managed to rise again to the post of Gon-Dainagon , but was again exiled by the shogunate in 1315, this time to Tosa .

On behalf of Tennō Fushimi, he compiled the imperial collection of poetry Gyokuyō-wakashū with more than 2500 waka , which he completed in 1312. The imperial anthology Shokushūishū , completed in 1278, contains 132 of his waka.

Some of his poems are preserved in the Tamekane-kyō Kashū collection , a compilation from the late 15th century, as are three of his artfully linked acrostics , which are reminiscent of modern concrete poetry in their geometrical form .

He was the founder of the school of poets Kyōgoku-ha , which was in rivalry with Nijō-ha , which was founded by his uncle Nijō Tameuji .
