The monastery Kyormo Lung ( Tib. Skyor mo lung ) was originally a convent of Kadam -School, the first Sarma -Tradition of Tibetan Buddhism . It is located west of Lhasa in the valley of the Tölung River ( stod lung chu ) in Tölung Dechen ( stod lung bde chen rdzong ), a district of the prefecture-level city of Lhasa in the Tibet Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China .

The monastery was founded in 1169 by Balti Wangchug Tshälthrim ( sbal ti dbang phyug tshul khrims ). Tsongkhapa studied here under the abbot Kashipa Losel ( bka 'bzhi pa blo gsal ) the Vinaya Sutra of Gunaprabha (T. yon tan' od ). In the 15th century it became a Gelugpa monastery.
