Kyōwa Kagaku Kōgyō KK ( Japanese 協和 化学 工業 株式会社 , ~ Kabushiki-gaisha , English Kyowa Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. ) is a Japanese chemical company based in Sakaide on the island of Shikoku .

It produces magnesium compounds such as magnesium oxide , magnesium hydroxide and hydrotalcite , which are used as flame retardants , vulcanization activators , acid acceptors and as antacids or food additives. In 1966, Kyowa was the first company to succeed in extracting synthetic hydrotalcite. The raw magnesium is extracted in a seawater saline in Takamatsu .

The products are marketed in Europe through the subsidiary Kisuma Chemicals .
