The Kyritz chain of lakes is a 22 km long ice age meltwater channel near Kyritz in Brandenburg .

It was formed when the inland ice of the Vistula Ice Age thawed around 20,000 years ago. The Seerinne stretches almost in a straight line from north to south over the Obersee , in which the three lakes Borker See, Salzsee, Stolper See, Untersee or Bantikower See and Klempowsee rise. Since the damming of the Klempowsee in Wusterhausen / Dosse for the construction of the mill, the previously separate Bantikower See and Klempowsee became a lake ("Bantikower See"; and after the Dossespeicher was built around 1979 also, or mainly called "Untersee"). Large parts of the lakes are surrounded by forests (approx. 40 types of wood). The 382 hectare lake area is habitat for 16 fish and six water bird species.

The Obersee, also called Dossespeicher Kyritz , is used for irrigation . It is forbidden to drive internal combustion powered boats on the Untersee. The ships on the tour line have received special permits. Water sports enthusiasts go on the lake with boats with oar or electric drive. On the lakeshore at the forest colony and near Wusterhausen there are pile dwellings, which are called boat halls.

Treadmills and rowing boats can be borrowed from the beaches of Kyritz and Wusterhausen on the Untersee. Thanks to their restored historic buildings, they also offer a journey back in time to the bathing tradition of the 1920s - while at the same time offering modern bathing pleasure with diving platforms and water slides.

A Slavic castle is said to have once stood on the Untersee island within the chain of lakes . Later the island served fishermen as a place to live and work. Since the turn of the last century there has been a restaurant on the island - the "Insl", which can be reached by ferry from both shores of the lake .
