The Unterseeinsel is an island in the Untersee in the Kyritzer Seenkette in Brandenburg . It belongs to the town of Kyritz and is located in the east of the urban area, on the banks of the Waldkolonie settlement.
The island is 100 meters from the west bank (forest colony, town of Kyritz) and 200 meters from the east bank of the lake ( Bantikow , municipality of Wusterhausen / Dosse ). It has an approximately circular shape with a diameter of around 134 meters and an area of 1.3 hectares . There is a restaurant on the north side of the island and a small playground to the south. There is an old population of trees on the island, with individual tree species being labeled and explained in the form of an arboretum with signs. Access to the island is via a ferry that travels to the island from both the eastern and western shores of the lake. There are also mooring options for other boat traffic.
A Slavic castle is said to have been on the island. The island later served as accommodation for fishermen. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, a restaurant was built on the island.
The city of Kyritz has been offering civil weddings on the island since 2015 .
