The Kystverket ( German : the coastal plant ) is the authority for the administration of the coastal area of the country Norway . She is responsible for shipping , its safety and environmental protection in the marine area. The Kystverket is subordinate to the Norwegian Ministry of Transport ( Samferdselsdepartementet ). The seat of the authority is in Ålesund .
history
The Kystverket is a successor authority to the Fyrdirektorat , the Havnedirektorat and the Lotdirektorat . The Fyrdirektorat was responsible for providing lighthouses along the Norwegian coast and was founded in 1841. The Havnedirektorat was founded in 1846. The Lotdirektorat responsible for the work of the pilots was established in 1948. In 1974 the three authorities were merged into a new one called Kystdirektoratet , which in turn became subordinate to the Kystverket in 2002.

The area of responsibility of the Kystverkets is divided into five geographical regions: Southeast, West, Central Norway , Nordland as well as Troms and Finnmark . There is also a pilot service, a shipping company and a standby center as further sub-organizations of the headquarters in Ålesund.
The head of the Kystverkets is the so-called Kystdirektør . This office is currently held by Einar Vik Arset. A total of around 1000 employees work in one of the authorities. There are two ways of funding: Part of the money comes from the users of the services that the agency provides. The remaining portion is provided by the state.
The most important tasks include the expansion and maintenance of fairways and fishing ports, the operation of lighthouses, traffic control and planning, the provision of pilots, the issuing of navigation warnings and marine safety.
