Coordinates: 37 ° 35 '48.3 "  N , 127 ° 3' 6.8"  O The Kyung Hee University is a private since 1955 University in Korea . It is one of 36 universities (2009) in Seoul . It also has a second campus location (“Global Campus”) in the suburb of Suwon .

history

The history of the university begins with its founding in 1949 as a state-registered "Shinheung Junior College" in Seoul. From January 1959 it became a four-year college. From February 1955 the college was officially upgraded to a university.

From April 1965 the college for "Oriental Medicine" opened. In October 1971 the Kyung Hee "Medical Center" was added. In December 1973 the "East-West Medical Research Center" was founded.

In June 1978 the first museum of natural history in Asia was opened. In September 1984 the Kwangnung Campus was acquired and the Graduate Institute of Peace Studies was founded there. In December 1993 it received the UNESCO Prize for Peace Education.

In April 1997, the Kyung Hee Astronomy Observatory succeeded in discovering a new star, which was then named "Kyung Hee Star". The new "Grand Peace Palace" was inaugurated in October 1999 with the "Asia Cultural Art Festival". One month later, the university was opened to evening courses so that working people can use them.

In September 2000, the university was recognized as a "Superior Academic University" by the South Korean Ministry of Education. A month later the newly built university library was inaugurated.

In May 2005, IT media reported that Kyung Hee University and Universal Display Corp. developed a transparent hi-tech display.

Since July 2008 there has been a cooperation and exchange program between the Institute for Environmental and Technology Law at the University of Trier and lawyers from the Kyung Hee University.
