Kyviškės is a village in the Vilnius district in Lithuania . The village with 336 inhabitants (as of 2011) is located east of Vilnius . The municipality of Dobromislė belongs to Kyviškės.

location

Kyviškės is located about 15 kilometers east of the city center of Vilnius . Surrounding villages are Viktariškės in the north, Skaisteriai and Sadūniškės in the east, Dvarykščiai in the south and Juodalaukis and Karklėnai in the west. The Kyvė flows through the village .

The Krašto kelias 101 runs south of Kyviškės from Vilnius to the border with Belarus . The village is also on the Vilnius – Minsk railway line .

history

Kyviškės was first mentioned in 1798. The Vilniaus rajono Kyviškių pagrindinė elementary school has existed in the Dobromislė part of the municipality since 1939 , and today around 120 students are educated at this school. During the time of the Soviet Union , a forced agricultural collective was formed in Kyviškės , which existed until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1992.

Airfield

In 1947 an airfield was built east of the village . Today the airfield is used as a training area for the Lithuanian army . On June 16, 2016, there was an incident at the airfield when a light aircraft , apparently while performing tricks, crashed and went up in flames. The pilot was killed in the crash.

Administrative affiliation

From 1950 to 1995, Kyviškės was in the Grigaičiai District in the Vilnius Rajong Municipality . Since then, the village has been part of the Šatrininkai municipality in the Vilnius district.
