The Kyyjärvi ("Kreuzottersee") is a lake in the municipality of the same name Kyyjärvi in central Finland .
It covers an area of around 16.34 km² in the area of the Salpausselkä ridge at an altitude of 150 m above sea level and is therefore one of the highest lakes in Finland (excluding Lapland). The elongated lake has an extension of around 10 km from northwest to southeast, at its widest point it is around 3 km wide. It is divided into a north and a south basin by the Tervaniemi peninsula. In winter the lake freezes over completely, so that an ice road is set up between the church village Kyyjärvi on the south bank of the lake and the village Pölkki . The ice in the southern basin generally begins to thaw around early April.
The reed-up and partly wooded shores of the lake provide habitat for numerous species of birds such as the rare whooper swan .
