The Långe January (dt .: Langer January) is a lighthouse on the southern tip of the Swedish Baltic island of Öland . With a height of 41.6 meters, it is the tallest lighthouse in Scandinavia . Its light range is 33 km.

The lighthouse was built from 1784 to 1785, other information shows that the construction time was from 1778 to 1785. May have been in the construction of Russian prisoners of war involved. The rubble from the demolished St. John's Chapel was used as building material . The chapel was a little further north.

The tower's first light was an open fire. The first coat of paint, in white, was given to Långe Jan in 1845. In that year a more modern lantern was installed in the tower. A few years later the tower was given a black stripe. This color scheme has been retained to this day.

The lighthouse is still in operation, even though the lighting system has been modernized and is now remote controlled. The tower is open to visitors in summer.

The tower is surrounded by several buildings belonging to the Ottenby bird observatory . There is also a restaurant and a souvenir shop.

The northern counterpart to Lången Jan is the younger and smaller Långe Erik on the northern tip of Öland.
