from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lê Văn Hưu (* 1230 ; † 1322 ) was a Vietnamese scholar and historian at the time of the Trần dynasty . He wrote a comprehensive historical work which should depict Vietnamese history up to his time. The work has not been preserved in the original, but passages from his work can be found in later works.

Life

Le Van Huu passed the scholarly exam at the Tran Imperial Court in 1247. After completing his exams, he was employed as a scholar and historian in the structures of courtly scholarship. In 1272 he presented his comprehensive historical work, Historical Records of the Dai Viet ( Dai Viet Su Ky ) , to the throne . Le Van Huu used the published historical records of Tran Pho, who was a historian at court in the 12th century. His work itself has not been preserved, but parts of it have been included in the Complete Historical Records of the Dai Viet , which were written by Ngô Sĩ Liên in the 15th century under the Lê dynasty . In the writings of Le Van Huu, there was a clear Confucian influence in Vietnam, which was then dominated by Buddhism .
