A blotter (also erase rocker , quenchers or blotter called) is a device that the handling of blotting paper is intended to facilitate.

It consists of an upper part with a handle and a semicircular lower part, over which blotting paper is stretched - usually in several layers in stock. The user can thus dry moist ink writing without having to bring his fingers into contact with the blotting paper. To use it, you place the side edge of the extinguishing bed next to the fresh writing and then roll ("weigh") it over the curved surface. This prevents simple blotting paper from blurring the writing if it is placed carelessly.

In the past, the extinguishing cradle, often made of fine materials such as marble , was part of the normal equipment of a desk, but today extinguishing cradles are still sold, mostly as part of a writing set. It is still often used in representative contexts, for example when official documents are signed in ink and because of the character of the document, importance should be placed on clean writing.

The predecessor of the extinguishing cradle was a sand can .
