Kidnapping insurance

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A kidnapping and ransom insurance reimbursed the case in a hostage ransom , but also covers the cost of intermediaries, interpreters, and psychiatrists and physicians from aftercare. Some insurance companies also contribute to the costs of safety training for their customers. Companies and persons who are active in high-risk areas can be considered as policyholders. Places that are frequently covered include parts of Russia and Eastern Europe, Haiti , Mexico , Venezuela , Nigeria, and other African countries. The insurance is offered to managers of European companies abroad and to employees of non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

In Germany, ransom insurance was not permitted until 1998.

Alien abduction

A special form of kidnapping insurance is insurance against kidnapping by aliens . While there is no evidence that such an event ever happened, several insurance companies offer policies that become due when the insured can prove that they were abducted by aliens and brought back to Earth. The US St. Lawrence Agency and a British insurance company are said to have sold more than 20,000 policies each. Experts criticize that such policies are aimed primarily at people with mental illness.

The Heaven's Gate sect acquired insurance against alien abduction prior to their mass suicide. The London insurer GRIP guaranteed a payment of US $ 160,000 for a proven abduction by extraterrestrial beings for a premium of US $ 155 a year. With a simultaneous impregnation by aliens, the sum would even have risen to 320,000 US dollars. This option was explicitly also possible for men as protection against the unknown technological possibilities of the aliens.
