Lötschberg line

The Lötschberg line is a transport connection from the Swiss plateau to the Valais and partly further to Italy .

Hourly RegioExpress trains run over the Lötschberg mountain route from Bern or Spiez to Brig and back. They are driven with the multiple units BLS RABe 535 called Lötschberger .

Use the Lötschberg base line (LBS) or the Lötschberg base tunnel (LBT)

  • hourly intercity trains from Zurich to Visp and Brig;
  • two-hour intercity trains from Basel to Brig or EuroCity trains from Basel to Milan ;
  • various relief and additional trains on individual days of the week or during periods with very high traffic volumes; some of these are classified as InterRegio .

The term Lötschberg line should not be confused with the term Lötschberg line. Line denotes a transport offer, whereas route or railway line stands for an infrastructure.
