Lion head rabbit

The lion head rabbit or lion's mane rabbit is a breed of dwarf rabbit .

The animals have similar physical characteristics as a colored dwarf , only the length of the fur is different. Since this form of the rabbit is still young, the breeding results are not entirely consistent even within one litter. A clear characteristic is the long mane on and around the head, but otherwise they have rather short fur. Other features are short erect ears and a stocky head.

The Association of German Rabbit Breeders does not currently recognize these rabbits as a breed, as there are no established (pure) breed characteristics and colors. A provisional German-language breed description is available from the Löwenclub (for lion-head rabbits and ram rabbits).

The animals have found recognition in the United Kingdom (2002), Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden (2003), in several other countries, e.g. B. in the USA, the procedure is ongoing.

Since the Central Association of German Racial Rabbit Breeders met all the prerequisites for distribution, stock security, exhibition activity and quality development, the little lions' heads, rhön-colored, were included in the standard as of October 1, 2014, under the official name of the European standard: dwarf rabbit-lion's head (ZwKLk) , rhön-colored.

The Japanese-colored and white blue eyes have been approved as new breeds since 2014 and may be exhibited at the federal and state shows of the ZDRK. The expert commission has decided to classify the dwarf rabbit lion head (ZwKLk) in division 7 long-haired breeds including the corresponding club allocation.
