Liège syrup ( French sirop de Liège , Dutch Luikse stroop ) is a traditional product of the Liege region in Belgium . It is a dark, firm syrup made from cooked apples and / or pears. Dates are sometimes added in industrial production. It is used as a spread on bread, but is also used in Belgian cuisine . The product is similar to the apple cabbage known in Germany and the Swiss pear honey .
