L'Enfantillage polka

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The L'Enfantillage-Polka is a polka- French by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 202). The work was performed for the first time on January 25, 1858 in the Sofienbad Hall in Vienna.

Remarks

The polka was written for a charity ball for the financial entertainment of child care institutions (kindergartens) in Mardi Gras in 1858 and also premiered at the event mentioned. This explains the title name (the French word enfant means child in German ). The work became popular straight away and stayed on the Strauss Chapel's repertoire. It is performed again and again to this day and was often played at the New Year's concerts of the Vienna Philharmonic .

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 2 minutes and 52 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
