Ciudad Abierta (founded in 1971 in Ritoque near Valparaíso in Chile ) is an experimental building project .

In the Ciudad Abierta / Open City it should be possible to combine living, working and studying. This idea arose at the university. From the mid-1950s, professors, architects, artists and poets met there, who later wrote the manifesto of the Ciudad Abierta Amereida (composed of the words America and Eneida). In 1970 the Ciudad Abierta site was purchased. It is an almost undeveloped area of 270 hectares. One area of this is used as an architectural and artistic experimental field for the Faculty of Architecture and Design of the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso . Parts of the wide dune landscape Ritoque with more than three kilometers of beach belong to it, as well as the wetland Manta-gua .

In 2017 the work Ciudad Abierta was presented at documenta 14 .
