LG Display is a South Korean company based in Seoul ( South Korea ).

The company was founded in 1999 under the name LG.Philips LCD as a joint venture between the Dutch company Philips and the South Korean company LG Electronics . It specializes in the manufacture of liquid crystal displays (LCDs) . In July 2004 the company was listed on the New York and Seoul stock exchanges . In February 2008, a name change to LG Display was decided by the shareholders, as Philips sold a large part of its shares. On March 15, 2009 Philips sold the last shares.

The main competitors in the area of ​​LCDs are Samsung Electronics , Sony and Sharp .
