The LK-1 ( Russian ЛК-1 ) was the first trolleybus to be produced in the Soviet Union . Around 100 vehicles were built between 1933 and 1936.

Vehicle history

Several plants were involved in the implementation of the project and its subsequent manufacture. NATI developed the vehicle in 1933, the chassis came from the Jaroslawski Avtomobilny Sawod , accordingly some parts showed similarities with those of the Ja-3 truck . The electrical equipment was manufactured in the “Dinamo” plant and the body came from the Zavod imeni Stalina in Moscow. Were assembled all the parts in swarz (Russian СВАРЗ, short for Sokolnitscheski Wagono- i Awtobusnoremontny Zavod, Russian Сокольнический вагоно- и автобусоремонтный завод, in German about Sokolniker wagon and bus repair shop , named after the district of Moscow Sokolniki ). In the first year of production 30 trolleybuses were built, 68 by the beginning of 1936. They were mainly used in Moscow, but were also delivered to Leningrad , Kiev and Rostov-on-Don .

The name LK is the abbreviation for the name Lasar Kaganowitsch , a Soviet politician under Josef Stalin who, as a high-ranking official of the Moscow city administration, was responsible for the expansion of local public transport in the capital Moscow in the early 1930s .

There were some modifications during the production period. In 1934, the LK-2 was a three-axle vehicle that had 49 seats. The LK-4 and LK-5 models were also created through modernization . A total of almost 100 vehicles were created from all modifications. From 1936 onwards, the Yaroslavsky Avtomobilny Sawod was built to replace the JaTB-1 family of vehicles.
