The LLM01 (laser light module) is an adaptive target acquisition accessory . It is manufactured by the German company Rheinmetall Defense in Stockach .

In the case of the Bundeswehr , it is attached to the G36 using a metal clamp on the left side of the main visor carrier. The British Army uses it on the SA80 .

The LLM01 offers the following "lighting options":

  • A) White light headlight: The headlight is very bright and comparable to a SureFire torch with two batteries (6 V).
  • B) Not eye-safe red laser point : The visibility depends on the ambient light conditions and is well suited for the quick shot. In the dark, the range is more than 200 m.
  • C) IR laser: It is only visible when LUCIE or another IR night vision device is used. This option is useful because it is more difficult for the enemy to detect their own position (than with a visible laser, option B), unless they also have IR night vision equipment.
  • D) Combination of A & B: It is used for illuminating and at the same time determining the stopping point using the red laser point.

The lighting options can be selected on the top of the device using the labeled rotary selector switch. It is triggered either by a button directly on the device (also as a permanent function) or optionally by a pressure switch that can be attached to various positions on the weapon using a cable. The most practical position of the cable switch is to attach it to the handguard of the weapon. With this variant, the LLM01 can be operated with the hand supporting the weapon and at the same time serves to better find a reproducible weapon grip.

With the exception of the police, it may not be used in a civilian environment in Germany because, like all lighting devices on weapons , it is prohibited by the Weapons Act (Section 1, Appendix 1, Section 4.1, Paragraph 1).
