LW10.5 (Paralympics)

LW10.5 is a starting class for athletes in Paralympic winter sports for athletes in Nordic skiing and biathlon . The membership of athletes in the starting class is outlined as follows:

Skiers of class LW10,5 have disabilities of the lower limbs and trunk. The following minimum criteria must be met:

  • normal arm functions - and
  • existing trunk and leg functions - and
  • if the legs are fixed, the athlete is able to sit freely without arm support - and
  • the athlete is unable to move beyond the basic position.

Athletes start sitting and use a sit-down ski (ski sled) for Nordic skiing / biathlon.

These special ski sleds are adapted to the different needs of the athlete and are based on the degree of physical disability. The division into classes indicates the degree of functional disability of an athlete that is relevant to competition .
