LW10 (Paralympics)
LW10 is a starting class for athletes in Paralympic winter sports for athletes in Alpine skiing , Nordic skiing and biathlon . The membership of athletes in the starting class is outlined as follows:
Skiers of Class LW10 have disabilities of the lower limbs and trunk. The following minimum criteria must be met:
- normal arm functions - and
- minimal trunk and leg functions - and
- if the legs are fixed, the athlete will not be able to sit freely without arm support.
Athletes start sitting and use:
- for Nordic skiing / biathlon a seat ski (ski sled),
- a monoski for alpine skiing.
These special ski sleds / monoski are adapted to the different needs of the athlete and are based on the degree of physical disability. The division into classes indicates the degree of functional disability of an athlete that is relevant to competition .
