LW11.5 (Paralympics)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

LW11.5 is a starting class for athletes in Paralympic winter sports for athletes in Nordic skiing and biathlon . The membership of athletes in the starting class is outlined as follows:

Skiers of class LW11,5 have disabilities disabilities of the lower limbs and trunk. The following minimum criteria must be met:

  • normal arm functions - and
  • almost normal trunk function - and
  • reduced leg function (one or two-sided) - and
  • the athlete can walk or stand with or without a prosthesis.

Athletes start sitting and use a sit-down ski (ski sled) for Nordic skiing / biathlon.

These special ski sleds are adapted to the different needs of the athlete and are based on the degree of physical disability. The division into classes indicates the degree of functional disability of an athlete that is relevant to competition .
