La Baleine ( French for 'The Whale') is a group of closely spaced small rock islands off the coast of the East Antarctic Adélieland . In the Géologie archipelago , they are right in front of the Dumont-d'Urville station on the Pétrel island .
French scientists named it that way in 1977 because its shape is reminiscent of the shape of a whale .
