La Cetra

La Cetra is the name of several concert collections in the Baroque period. Originally, Cetra was the Italian name of a lyre- like string instrument that Claudio Monteverdi used in his L'Orfeo .

  • Alessandro Marcello : La Cetra, 6 concerts (Augsburg 1738), for 2 oboes, strings, bassoon and harpsichord
  • The Swiss La Cetra Barockorchester Basel also borrowed the name.
  • Cetra was the name of an Italian record label, active between 1933 and 1957, year in which the merger with the Fonit label took place. Since then, the label has operated as Fonit Cetra until activities were discontinued in 2000.
