La Citoyenne ( French for "The Citizen") was a newspaper for women's rights in France .

It appeared bimonthly from 1881 to 1891. The newspaper was founded by Hubertine Auclert , supported by Maria Deraismes , Léon Richer and Marie Bashkirtseff , among others .

The main focus of the publication was the legal discrimination against French women anchored in the Civil Code . La Citoyenne compared the living conditions of women in other countries and in the French colonies with those of women in France and challenged laws that oppressed the entire female population. The La Citoyenne represented a radically egalitarian feminism and is despite its short existence to this day as one of the most important organs of the French women's movement .
