La Cooperativa Unidad Nacional Mujeres Saharauis , English: National Union of Sahrawi Women, short (NUSW) is an organization founded in 1974 by women for women and belongs to the Frente Polisario . She claims to have about 10,000 members, especially in the sahraurischen refugee camps of Western Sahara, the Sahrawi refugee camps and the free zone . The organization is represented by 57 women. The elections take place every five years.

situation

Due to the conflict in Western Sahara, there have been large refugee camps in the Sahara near Tindouf (Algeria) for almost 40 years . Morocco demands the annexation of the Western Sahara and the Polisario Front the recognition of the Democratic Arab Republic of the Sahara . The implementation of a referendum has failed several times. The ceasefire in the area is monitored by MINURSO .
