La Esmeralda is a village on the banks of the Orinoco in the Venezuelan state of Amazonas . There is a military base for the Venezuelan army and an airport near the village.

North of La Esmeralda is the Duidaberg, which is part of the Parima mountain range .
history
The Spanish lieutenant Francisco Fernández de Bobadilla founded the village in 1758.
Alexander von Humboldt and Aimé Bonpland visited La Esmeralda in early 1800. Even though the village was only inhabited by a few families at the time, Humboldt reported that three languages were used besides Spanish: Yekuana , Idapameno and Catarapeño.
The New Tribes Mission had a base there. But she was expelled from the country in 2005.
education
There are two schools: Escuela La Esmeralda and Unidad Educativa Cardenal José Umberto Quintero.
