La Fourche is a station of the Paris Métro . Here line 13 from the direction of Châtillon - Montrouge (in the south) splits into its two branches in the direction of Gabriel Péri in the northwest and Saint-Denis - Université in the northeast.

location

La Fourche is located in the northwest of the city between the 17th and 18th arrondissements . Above the station, Avenue de Saint Ouen branches off to the northeast from Avenue de Clichy , whose respective streets are followed by the two branches of the line.

The Saint-Michel des Batignolles church and the Cimetière de Montmartre can be found in the vicinity .

history

The station was started on February 26, 1911, at that time - as a station on Line B of the Nord-Sud-Gesellschaft - exclusively with operational management in the direction of Porte de Saint-Ouen, i.e. Saint-Denis. Only on January 20, 1912 was the north-western branch added, which ended at the Porte de Clichy .

Due to the permanent congestion of both branches of line 13 and the common trunk line, plans for a long time provided for line 14 to be extended in a new tunnel from the Saint-Lazare station to La Fourche to give it a branch of this line. As part of the Grand Paris Express project , the La Fourche station will probably remain unchanged. The extension of line 14 will cross both branches further out of town and already there will take over some of the passengers on line 13.

Structure of the station

The station has three platforms. On the one hand there are two opposite ones, the east of which is approached by both branches to the north, the other is only approached by the branch Asnières - Gennevillier - Les Courtilles in the south. The third platform is below the other tracks and is only served by the trains going south on the Saint-Denis-Astes.
