La Hora is the oldest daily newspaper in Guatemala . La Hora was founded in 1920 by Clemente Marroquín Rojas . With this foundation, Marroquín laid the foundation for a newspaper publishing dynasty. In La Hora , Marroquín published his editorials, some of which were reprinted in other Latin American newspapers and eventually archived in the Library of Congress .

Marroquín was a member of the Partido Unionista . He went into exile in Honduras . After his return to Guatemala he initiated other publishers, a campaign against the election of Jorge Ubico Castañeda as president in 1926 with the title "Desnudando al ídolo" (German about the emperor's new clothes ). When Ubico became president of Guatemala on February 15, 1931, Marroquín went into exile in El Salvador .

After the fall of Ubico in 1944, Marroquín returned to Guatemala and reopened La Hora .

La Hora reported on massacres of peasants and union struggles against government and oligarchy forces in Guatemala. When Clemente Marroquín Rojas was Julio César Méndez Montenegro's deputy , family members ran La Hora . La Hora is the only afternoon newspaper in Guatemala. The 1998 edition was 3,000 copies. Óscar Clemente Marroquín Godoy (* ≈1930) heads the family business and the media group. The Marroquín family has made a positive contribution to journalism in Guatemala. Gonzalo Marroquín Godoy is the editor of Prensa Libre , his cousin is Jose Ruben Zamora Marroquin , founded Siglo Veintiuno and now heads El Periodico .
