Anna Astl-Leonhard , b. Vogel (born July 12, 1860 in Brno , † April 29, 1924 in Vienna ) was an Austrian writer. She also published under the pseudonym A. Vogel vom Spielberg .

Life

Astl-Leonhard was born in Moravia as the first child of the secondary school professor and poet Hilarius Vogel . When she was ten years old, the family moved to Vienna, where Astl-Leonhard attended the community school. At her father's request, she entered the imperial and royal teacher training institute St. Anna, but dropped out of pedagogical training after two years. She trained as an actress and after a year was allowed to audition Heinrich Laube , who hired her as an apprentice at the Vienna City Theater.

Her first fiancé made her abandon her stage career and instead start writing. After years of conflict, the couple separated. In October 1894 Astl-Leonhard married the editor and philosophical writer Hugo Astl-Leonhard (1870–1900), who committed suicide at the age of 29 due to mental health problems. Anna Astl-Leonhard died in Vienna in 1924.

Astl-Leonhard mainly published novels and short stories. She has also worked for numerous newspapers and magazines.
