La Vie (German Das Leben ) is a painting by the Russian-French painter Marc Chagall from 1964 . Chagall painted the picture on behalf of Marguerite and Aimé Maeght for their Fondation Maeght, founded in 1964 .

The 296 × 406 cm oil painting mixes events from the painter's life with his dreams: the grandfather who was a rabbi, the marriage with Bella, the birth of daughter Ida, the flight from Russia in a horse-drawn carriage, the flight to America in a ship , Musicians, acrobats and dancers, Paris in blue and finally the painter with his palette.
