Lake Télé is a very shallow, almost circular lake (about 6 km long and 5 km wide) in the northern part of the Republic of the Congo . Its area is around 23 km² and the water volume is around 71 million m³. It drains through the Likouala-aux-Herbes into the Congo . The lake may have been created by a meteorite impact . This assumption is based on an identified magnetic anomaly under the northern half of the lake.

Mokele-Mbembe

There are many myths about the lake, including the legend of Mokele-Mbembe , a reptile that is said to be a sauropod-like animal and that could only have survived in this lake.

The book Reptilia by Thomas Thiemeyer from 2005 also deals with this myth . Furthermore, there is a travelogue about an expedition to Lac Télé with the book Congo Fever by the English author Redmond O'Hanlon .
