The Lac des Taillères is a medium-sized lake in the canton of Neuchâtel , in western Switzerland . Apart from Lake Neuchâtel, it is the largest lake in the canton.
location
The lake is 1036 m above sea level. M. in the high valley Vallée de la Brévine in the Neuchâtel Jura , near the border with France . The long but narrow lake extends in the direction west-south-west-east-north-east according to the course of the Jura chains in this area. Its dimensions are 1.9 km in length and around 250 m in width. The Lac des Taillères occupies the deepest basin of the La Brévine valley. Its south bank rises quite steeply to the adjacent Jura ridge, while the north bank is relatively flat, and the climb to the Larmont chain only begins 1 km from the lake. In this plain to the north of the lake there are a few farmhouses that are called Les Taillères .
The lake is fed by rainwater, small rivulets and individual springs in the lake itself; there is no larger creek flowing above ground. The drainage is also underground. The water seeps into the porous calcareous lake bed, runs through a cave system and emerges 6 km south and 200 m deeper in the karst spring of the Areuse .
use
Because the Lac des Taillères is only shallow, it freezes very quickly in winter and is therefore a popular destination for ice skaters in winter .
