Salmon sack

The salmon sack is a joke in the form of a small sack that plays the sound recording of hearty laughter at the push of a button. It was invented in 1968 by Walter Thiele , who applied for patents for a whole series of other inventions .

Opened electromechanics of a salmon sack, red the record

The origin of the laughter was loud bag Thiele a "laughing sock" in which he a battery-operated mini plate was installed nspieler with the cawing of parrots. The salmon sack was then the improved version.

Electromechanical salmon bags have the essential properties of a gramophone with an electric drive, but subscript is used:

  • Belt drive with direct current motor
  • Scanner with steel needle and membrane for sound radiation
  • Run-out groove / limit switch

The device is started by lifting the needle, which then returns to the beginning by means of a spring.

To absorb the laughter, Thiele organized a competition with candidates who could laugh particularly contagiously, a kind of casting . The winner was a tax officer from Nuremberg, whose laugh was recorded. According to Thiele, he received a fee of 1,000 D-Marks for this . Originally, the salmon sack was usually light brown like jute, the record player inside was flesh-colored.

The salmon sack will also be offered in 2020. Newer salmon bags, however, are usually smaller and function fully electronically with digital storage of the audio signal.
