Lacus Luxuriae - Latin for lake of abundance - is a solidified lava lake on the moon , which in its formation resembles the larger Maria . The name was established by the International Astronomical Union in 1976.
The small, irregular sea surface has a mean diameter of 50 kilometers and is located north of the center of the back of the moon, which is turned away from the earth, at the selenographic coordinates 19 degrees north and 176 degrees east.
