The Lacus Timoris ( Latin for lake of fear ) is a solidified lava lake on the earth's moon , which is similar to the larger Maria in terms of its origin . Its mean diameter is around 150 km. On its west side lies the moon crater Hainzel , on the southern edge lies the crater Epimenides and on the northern edge lies Haidinger .
The International Astronomical Union approved its name at its General Assembly in Grenoble in 1978 .
