Ladoga battles
In German military historiography, three military operations south of Lake Ladoga in the years 1942/1943 are referred to as Ladoga battles . The fighting, which dragged on for several months, resulted from the efforts of the Red Army to break the German blockade of Leningrad (September 8, 1941 - January 27, 1944).
- First Ladoga battle (August 27, 1942 - October 2, 1942; Soviet name: Sinyavinsk Operation ): attempt to capture Sinyavino
- Second Ladoga battle (January 12, 1943 - April 5, 1943; Soviet name: Operation Iskra [ Iskra = "spark"]): Opening of a narrow land corridor north of Sinyavino
- Third Ladoga Battle (July 22, 1943 - September 25, 1943; Soviet name: Mgaer Operation ): attempt to capture the Sinyavino Heights and the Mga railway junction
The Leningrad blockade was finally blown up in early 1944 during the Leningrad-Novgorod operation .
