Lady S. (comic)
Lady S. is a Franco-Belgian comic series by Jean van Hamme and Philippe Aymond about Lady S., a spy with a mysterious past , which has been released since 2004 . Aymond has continued the series alone since volume 10.

At the beginning of the series, the main focus is on the identity of Lady S. alias Shania Rivkas / Suzan McKenzie. In the other volumes she is repeatedly involved in adventures through her past as a thief and spy and works for various secret services.
Each volume is a self-contained narrative. However, it is assumed that characters from previous volumes are known.
Emergence
Female main characters are rather rare in van Hamme's comic book world. Draftsman Philippe Aymond describes the process of creating Suzan / Shania as follows:
“Suzan / Shania was a challenge. You see them at the ages of twelve, fourteen, sixteen and twenty-five, and I needed to have a clue. I didn't have a specific figure in mind. I constructed it completely around her birthmark. But the physical aspect is not everything. As long as he is not on the pages or evolving in the scenario, a character does not exist. I think the difficulty for a male draftsman to bring a heroine to life is that he has to fight against the unconscious, instinctive drawing and its male part. I'm always wary of Suzan's demeanor to avoid turning her into a guy with a wig and high heels. "
Publications
The French-language original albums have been published by Dupuis since 2004 . The first five volumes were published in English by Cinebook .
In 2009 the first volume in Germany was published in the comic magazine ZACK and later also as an album (2010). All other volumes have been published as albums by Mosaik Steinchen for Steinchen Verlag since 2010 as ZACK Edition .
