It is named after the town of Lyshyn located on the lake and with a surface area of around 20 km² it is the largest reservoir in the southern Bug in the Vinnytsia Oblast.
The lake has a length of 45 kilometers and a width of up to 1.3 km. It has an average depth of 7 m and is up to 16-17 m deep. Its volume is 0.13-0.15 km³. The right banks of the reservoir are mostly low, the left banks are high, sometimes steep. The salt content in the lake reaches values of 460 to 710 mg per liter of lake water, with the maximum values being reached in winter.
